San Jose Sports Authority
adds 3 to board of directors

SAN JOSE (Feb. 4, 2005) – Three news members have been added to the San Jose Sports Authority Board of Directors.

The additions are David Bauer, vice president / systems & technology of the San Jose Mercury News; Dan Coonan, director of athletics and recreation at Santa Clara University; and Eddie Garcia, director of government affairs for Comcast Cable Communications.

Bauer was a journalist in Cincinnati and Miami whose career with Knight Ridder, parent company of the Mercury News, advanced on the business side of newspapers. He has lived in San Jose since 2001.

Coonan was named Santa Clara’s AD in August, coming from the University of California, Berkeley where he was an assistant athletic director. He began his career as a lawyer and held posts in collegiate sports at Notre Dame, Central Connecticut and the Pacific-10 Conference.

Garcia is a San Jose native who has worked in politics, business and community-based organizations for two decades. He previously coached basketball at three local high schools and at San Jose City College.

Victor M. Arrañaga Jr., manager of government affairs at Applied Materials, is chair of the Sports Authority board.
