Established as a private, non-profit 501c3 organization in 1991, the San Jose Sports Authority serves as the sports marketing agency for the City of San Jose – bringing sporting events to the City, supporting existing sporting events and participating in the development of youth sports.

The San Jose Sports Authority’s mission is to “establish San Jose as a premier center for sports on the West Coast; to improve the quality of life in Greater San Jose by increasing the City’s economic development, visibility and civic pride through sports.”

The Sports Authority, SAP Center and San Jose have hosted some of the country’s premier events, such as the 2012 U.S Olympic Trials – Gymnastics, the 2012 U.S. Figure Skating Championships and 2013 NCAA Men’s Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

In addition, the Sports Authority operates several community programs, including the REACH Youth Scholarship Program and the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame.

It is only with the help of community supporters and corporate partners that the organization is able to successfully attract national and international events to San Jose as well as implement these important community programs.
