SAP Center at San Jose Selected to Host “Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade”


SAN JOSE, CA — Today, the City of San Jose shared its excitement for the SAP Center in Downtown San José being selected as official host site of Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade on Monday, February 1, 2016.

“With Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade at SAP Center, we look forward to a special welcome to the NFL champion teams, members of the media, and thousands of guests to our vibrant downtown,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “Super Bowl 50 will provide a tremendous impact across our region.”

“We will show the world our beautiful downtown and our welcoming community during a week of great Super Bowl activities in San José,” Kim Walesh, San José Deputy City Manager and Director of Economic Development. “With our many partners, including San Jose Sports Authority, Team San José, the San José Downtown Association and the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee, we’re already gearing up for a terrific week of hospitality and delight for our visitors across the entire Bay Area.”

In addition to Super Bowl Opening Night, San Jose will also be a stop on The 50 Tour: Champions of the Bay Presented by Chevron. To be held at St. James Park during Viva CalleSJ Open Street Event on Sunday, October 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee’s 50 Tour will display the eight Bay Area Super Bowl Vince Lombardi Trophies – five from the San Francisco 49ers and three from the Oakland Raiders – with photo montages capturing the championship wins. The 50 Tour will be the first time that all eight championship trophies will be displayed together.

During Game Week, San Jose will be hosting three Super Community events in celebration of the Big Game.

San Jose Super Community Event: First Friday Winter Market — On Friday, February 5, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. in Downtown San José SoFA District. Artists, craft retailers, live music, DIY activities, and art galleries will entertain visitors and residents in the downtown arts district.  San Jose Super Community Event: Downtown Ice — Guests can enjoy ice-skating under the palm trees throughout Super Bowl week.  San Jose Super Community Event: Super Guadalupe River Run — On the morning of the Big Game, bring the entire family and join fellow runners and walkers in the annual 10k and 5k run along the beautiful Guadalupe River Trail. San José will host the NFC Champion team, which will be staying at the San José Downtown Marriott Hotel and will practice at San José State University’s Spartan Stadium.
