Tickets for the NCAA Women's College Cup Available Now
|
Tickets for the 2019 NCAA Women’s College Cup at Avaya Stadium in San Jose are now on sale to the general public. The tournament’s two semifinal matches will take place on Friday, Dec. 6 and the final will take place on Sunday, Dec. 8. Tickets will grant access to all three matches.
The NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament includes 64 teams that qualify by winning their respective conference tournament, claiming the conference regular season championship, or earning an at-large bid based on their regular season performance. Those 64 teams are divided into four sectional brackets, with the winner of each bracket reaching the NCAA Women’s College Cup at Avaya Stadium.
Avaya Stadium previously hosted the 2016 NCAA Women’s College Cup, which saw the University of Southern California win their second women’s soccer national championship in school history.

Fall Sports Season is Underway at Local Universities
|
School is back in session and that means fall sports are kicking off their competition seasons. Check out your favorite university at their upcoming home contests. Mark your calendars for these important dates mentioned below.

San Jose State University
The Spartans look to open the football season with a win over Northern Colorado tonight at 7 PM at CEFCU Stadium. Be sure to check out the new Spartan Village Fan Zone which includes a kids' area, video game truck, inflatables, student and adult tailgating, an early pregame radio show, and upgraded food and beverage options.
The women's soccer team has begun their quest for back to back Mountain West Conference championships. The defending champions are showing their defensive toughness with two shutouts to kick off the season. Catch them in action at home vs Utah Valley on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 PM.
Other fall sports in season are men's soccer, cross country, men's water polo, and women's volleyball.

Stanford University
The Cardinal football team was ranked No. 25 in the preseason Top 25 poll released by the Associated Press last Monday. It marks the ninth straight season in which the Cardinal has started ranked in the AP Top 25, the sixth-longest streak in the nation. The Cardinal play at home vs Northwestern this Saturday, Aug. 31 at 1 PM.
Stanford's women's soccer team is off to a hot start. No. 3 Stanford earned a 3-1 win over No. 11 West Virginia to cap a 2-0-0 road trip to start the season. The Cardinal (2-0-0) secured their second win over ranked opposition in three days after a season-opening 2-1 win at No. 6 Penn State last Friday. They face a tough home match up vs San Jose State on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 6 PM.
Also in action for Stanford this fall, the preseason No.1 women's volleyball team. The Stanford women's volleyball team will begin the 2019 season on top of the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason poll. It is the 74th No. 1 ranking all-time for the program.

Santa Clara University
The No. 13 Santa Clara Bronco's women's soccer team had a 4-1 breakout win Oregon last Sunday. After a tough 3-2 loss to No. 12 Texas A&M, head coach Jerry Smith and the Broncos bounced back at home against Oregon to even their record at 1-1. Come root them on at their next home game versus UCLA on Thursday, September 5 at 7:30 PM.

Final Home Stand for the San Jose Giants
The San Jose Giants have caught fire in the last month of the California League season, and currently lead the wild card race by 1.5 games with 5 games left in their season. Their 6-0 victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday Night at Excite Ballpark was the seventh win in the row for the club. During the win streak, the Giants pitching staff has a fashioned a spectacular sub 1.60 ERA, and the offense has been ignited by the bat of Courtney Hawkins, who became the fifth player in franchise to homer three times in a game on 8/25.

San Jose Earthquakes Making Playoff Surge
The San Jose Earthquakes defeated Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3-1 on Saturday night at Avaya Stadium to extend their home unbeaten streak to 11 matches (9-0-2). San Jose set single-game MLS records for shots (43) and shots on goal (19), while forcing an MLS-record 16 saves by Vancouver goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
After conceding a goal in the sixth minute, San Jose equalized one minute later through Brazilian midfielder Judson - his first career MLS goal. The Quakes then found the winner and an insurance goal from Chris Wondolowski and Andres Rios, respectively. Wondolowski's goal marked the 155th of his career and his 44th career game-winner, both new league records. Rios' goal was the first of his MLS career.
With the win, San Jose is in sixth place in the tough Western Conference with 41 points, just two points out of second place.
The Earthquakes remain at home to face Orlando City SC on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Avaya Stadium. The final two home games are Wednesday, Sept. 25 against Philadelphia Union and Sunday, Sept. 29 in a rivalry game versus Seattle Sounders FC. For tickets, please visit

Final Tune Up Before Week 1 for San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers improved their preseason record to 3-0 following last Saturday’s, 27-17, victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Most of San Francisco’s starters, including quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo saw an uptick in snaps in Saturday’s dress rehearsal, playing throughout the entire first half.
The 49ers conclude the preseason at Levi’s Stadium on Thursday, August 29 vs Los Angeles Chargers. Week 1 of the NFL regular season has the 49ers on the road Sept. 8 at Tampa Bay followed by week 2 at Cincinnati on Sept. 15. San Francisco will return to Levi’s Stadium for their home opener vs the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 22nd. Kick off is at 1:25 PM. For information and tickets, visit

Tom Fox, President of the San Jose Earthquakes
Tom Fox joined the San Jose Earthquake in July of 2017 as President, responsible for all football and business related activities.
Tom has over 30 years of experience in brand management and sports marketing. His career has included stops at Gatorade where he worked for 13 years over a 20 year span and ultimately led the brands’ Sports Marketing efforts globally, the NBA where he opened the League’s first offices in Asia, Nike leading both Asia Pacific and US Sports Marketing and Wasserman as Principal in Business Development.
Prior to joining the Earthquakes Tom was the CEO of Aston Villa FC in the English Premier League for two seasons, starting in 2014, and had originally relocated to London in 2009 to work for Arsenal FC in the newly created role of Chief Commercial Officer.
He currently sits on the board of Stat Sports, a wearable sports tracking company specializing in enhancing human performance and Openbrix, a blockchain based property portal based in the UK.

Marie Tuite, Athletic Director at San Jose State
Marie Tuite was promoted to the position of director of athletics at San José State University on May 19, 2017 after seven years of university service in several executive athletics administration positions. As of July 1, 2019, Tuite is one of 10 women who is an athletics director at a NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institution.
She originally joined San José State in June 2010 as a senior associate athletics director and the athletics department’s chief operating officer. Tuite also held the positions of deputy director of athletics/internal operations, fulfilled the role of senior woman administrator (SWA) and was the interim athletics director in 2012 and 2017 before being named athletics director. Tuite was a sports supervisor for football, men’s and women’s basketball and women’s golf. She managed future football scheduling, compliance, business affairs, and student services. The football team won its two bowl games, the 2012 Military Bowl and the 2015 Auto National Cure Bowl, and the Spartans as a department captured 11 conference team championships.
Her professional career includes executive positions at Pacific-12 Conference universities and the NCAA. She came to the Spartans from Seattle University where she was a Special Assistant to the Athletics Director. Tuite assisted Seattle University’s transition to NCAA Division I athletics status. Her first athletics administrative position was at Alma (Mich.) College in 1981 as the Director of Women’s Athletics Programs and Activities. She joined the University of California women’s athletics staff in 1984 as an assistant athletics director. Tuite worked for the NCAA as an Assistant Director of Championships from 1989 to 1994. She assisted the organization’s sport committees in the administration of the National Collegiate Championships program and coordinated the Association’s corporate partner, merchandising, promotional, and official ball programs for NCAA championships. She returned to a campus setting in 1994 as a senior associate athletics director at the University of Washington. Her duties included overseeing the process and appointment of new head coaches, directing daily operations, and initiating and implementing “keys to success” for priority Husky sports programs.
A two-sport student-athlete and graduate of Central Michigan University, she was inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990 as just the third female inductee. Tuite played field hockey and was a star basketball player who majored in physical education. She earned her master’s degree from her alma mater in athletic administration. Tuite is a member of NACDA (National Association of College Directors of Athletics), Women Leaders in College Sports, and the Women’s Sports Foundation. In May 2012, she was one of 41 local female executives honored at the 28th annual Tribute to Women Awards program by the YWCA Silicon Valley. She served on the 2019 College Football National Championship Host Committee Executive Board.
The native of Livonia, Mich., has two sons, Michael, a 2015 University of Washington graduate, and John.
