A prep All-American at Blackford High School, and one of Santa Clara University’s greatest athletes, Awtrey went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA and retired shortly after winning an NBA Championship.  At Santa Clara, he led the Broncos to three straight conference championships an overall record of 73-12, and graduated as the school’s all time scoring and rebounding leader.  In 1979, he was a member of the Seattle Supersonics Championship team and was revered for his strong and tenacious rebounding ability.

A man of great heart and determination, Awtrey was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
