A graduate of Lincoln High School he played guard for San Jose State from 1952-1955, becoming one of the greatest basketball players in Spartan history.  Hired as Santa Clara University’s head basketball coach in 1971, he lead his teams to 344 victories, six 20-win seasons and five post-season appearances over 22 seasons.  He took on the role of athletic director in 1991, and under his direction, the Broncos won 19 conference championships.  In 1996, he was appointed to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Committee, on which he served until his retirement.

A man of great leadership and integrity, Williams was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
