SAN JOSE SPORTS HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2000

Father & Son Football Greats

Plaque Location: SAP Center, Section 109

Santa Clara County was home to one of the most successful father-and-sons duos ever to be associated with football.  The father was the head coach at both San Jose State (1979-83) and Stanford (1984-88).  In 1981, the two-time conference “Coach of the Year,” guided the Spartans to a 9-3 record, a conference title, and a bowl game.  The son was Stanford’s quarterback from 1979-1982, earning Pac-10 Player of the Year twice and All-American honors.  He led the Denver Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances and two championships.

An unforgettable duo, Jack and John Elway were inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
