Jennifer Azzi became one of women’s basketball’s first national stars, leading teams to NCAA and Olympic championships. By the end of her four-year college career, the Oak Ridge, Tenn., native was a two-time All-American, national player of the year, MVP of the Final Four and leader of Stanford’s 1990 NCAA championship team. She played twice in the Olympics, winning a gold medal in 1996 in Atlanta before helping found the ABL, a professional women’s league, playing three seasons for the San Jose Lasers. She finished her career as one of the game’s top outside shooters in the WNBA.

A pioneer of women’s sports, Azzi was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
