A man whose name is synonymous with Stanford baseball, Mark Marquess finished his 41-year career at The Farm as the fourth-winningest coach in Division I history. He arrived at Stanford in 1965 as a two-sport athlete in baseball and football. After graduating, he signed with the Chicago White Sox and spent four seasons in professional baseball.

Marquess spent five seasons as a Stanford assistant before taking the reigns as head coach in 1977. Marquess led the Cardinal to two College World Series Championships and was named NCAA Coach of the Year three times and Pac-10 Coach of the Year nine times. He is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame and Stanford Athletics Hall of Fame.

Mark Marquess was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.
