Santa Clara Baseball Standout, A's Owner, Philanthropist

Plaque Location: SAP Center, Section 120

Steve Schott was a star pitcher for Bellarmine High School and SCU. At Bellarmine, he was twice named to the San Jose All-City team and player of the year his senior year. As a freshman at SCU, he made the NorCal SF All Stars, All-WCAC, registered victories over Stanford and UCLA, and a one-hitter against Cal.

In 1996, he purchased the Oakland A’s. His input led to a team turnaround with a new data-based philosophy that yielded five playoff appearances. He sold the A’s in 2006 and donated funds for campus buildings at Bellarmine, Mitty, St. Francis and SCU’s Schott baseball stadium.

Steve Schott was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
