A San José State graduate, Dick Vermeil won the 1976 Rose Bowl with UCLA and led the St. Louis Rams to victory in Super Bowl XXXIV.

The four-time NFL Coach of the Year led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl appearance in 1981 and Kansas City to a 2003 AFC West Division title. Vermeil was a college football analyst for CBS and ABC-TV for 15 years. He is enshrined in the San Jose State, Rose Bowl and Philadelphia Eagles Halls of Fame and the St. Louis Rams Ring of Honor, and is a Walter Camp Football Foundation Distinguished American Award recipient.

Dick Vermeil was inducted into the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
