SAN JOSÉ, CA (August 8, 2021) – The singles final at the 50th Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic was worthy of the tournament’s Golden Anniversary as American Danielle Collins outlasted Daria Kasatkina of Russia 6-3, 6-7(10), 6-1 in two hours and 18 minutes to win her second consecutive WTA title.

With her win tonight, Collins extends her match winning streak to 10 and joins Ashleigh Barty, Barbora Krejcikova, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Kasatkina as multiple title winners this year. Collins won her first career title in Palermo two weeks ago.

The win was the first for Collins over Kasatkina in three career meetings.

In doubles action, the No.2 seeded team of Darija Jurak and Andreja Klepac defeated the top-seeded team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Olympic bronze medalist Luisa Stefani 6-1, 7-5 to claim the doubles title. The duo was dominant during the week and dropped only one set during their winning run, which came in their opening match of the tournament.

Co-founded by the legendary sportswoman, visionary, and activist Billie Jean King, the tournament was the first event of the historic 1971 women’s professional tennis tour, a precursor to the WTA. Its list of past champions reads like a who’s who of women’s tennis, including Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Andrea Jaeger, Monica Seles, Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, and Kim Clijsters.

Owned and operated by IMG, the tournament features a 28-player singles draw and 16-team doubles draw and serves as the opening women’s event of the US Open Series.

Next year’s tournament is scheduled for August 1-7, 2022.
