SAN JOSÉ, CA (May 29, 2022) – Teenage sensation Coco Gauff is back in the French Open quarterfinals for the second consecutive year following her 6-4, 6-0 fourth-round win over Elise Mertens. The 18-year-old Gauff will face fellow American Sloane Stephens on Tuesday for a spot in her first a Grand Slam semifinal.

This will mark the second meeting between the two Americans. The two played last summer in the second round of the US Open with Stephens winning 6-4, 6-2.

In addition to her singles run, Gauff has also advanced to the third round of the doubles draw with partner Jessica Pegula. Seeded eighth, Gauff and Pegula will next face the No. 10 seeded team of Lucie Hradecka and Sania Mirza for a place in the quarterfinals.

Currently ranked No. 23 in the WTA world singles rankings and No. 10 in the world doubles rankings, Gauff will be making her Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic debut in San José this August. She has already captured two Hologic WTA Tour singles titles and four doubles crowns in her young career.

Gauff is the youngest player ranked in the top-100 and one of only two WTA players currently ranked in the top-25 in singles and doubles.

Gauff captured the hearts and minds of the world in 2019 when, as a 15-year-old, she advanced to the Round of 16 at Wimbledon, which included a first-round win over the five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams. She has continued to quickly progress up the world rankings ending the 2019 season at No. 68, the 2020 season at No. 48, and the 2021 season at No. 22.
