SAN JOSÉ, CA (June 24, 2022) – The 2022 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic player field is shaping up to be one of the strongest of the summer hard court season following three more early commitments from 2019 US Open Champion Bianca Andreescu, 2017 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic champion Madison Keys and young American star Amanda Anisimova.
The tournament will continue its tradition of celebrating the best in women’s tennis as the trio of North American stars join Roland Garros finalist Coco Gauff as early entrees.
“Having such a talented group of players competing at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic is very exciting,” said Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic Tournament Director Vickie Gunnarsson. “This iconic event has showcased the best women’s players in the world for more than five decades and Bianca (Andreescu), Madison (Keys), Amanda (Anisimova) and Coco (Gauff) continue that tradition.”
Andreescu, who will be making her Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic debut, burst onto the scene in 2019 winning three WTA singles titles including her first Grand Slam title at the US Open, reached a career-high No. 4 world ranking and was named the WTA Newcomer of the Year.
That season she set several national records. Her No. 4 world ranking is the highest ever by a Canadian woman, and her US Open title marked the first Grand Slam singles trophy won by a Canadian player, male or female.
Keys will be making her fifth appearance at the event which included the singles title in 2017. The former World No. 7 has won six career WTA singles titles including a victory in Adelaide earlier this season. She reached the Australian Open semifinals in January and is seeded 19th heading into Wimbledon.
Anisimova has been one of the most consistent players on tour reaching the final-16 or better at six of nine main draw appearances this year including two quarterfinals, one semifinal and a title in Melbourne to start 2022. The victory in Melbourne marked the second career WTA singles title for the 20-year-old American. Currently ranked No. 25 in the world, she will be seeded No. 20 at the upcoming Championships at Wimbledon.
The trio join Gauff who is currently ranked No. 12 in the WTA world singles rankings and No. 5 in the world doubles rankings, following her singles and doubles finals appearances at Roland Garros.
